topped with pineapple salsa and crispy fried onions.
I originally made this and used Hawaiian sweet bread rolls. Too yummy! But then I thought for this big guy, I needed to make it a really Big Bang Bite. My kids agreed that this required to be on a regular hot dog bun, since the first bite left you wanting more. So, the DJ Dog was born.
I came up with the recipe below, but it really can be something you modify to your taste. Want more Sriracha in the mayo? Go for it! You can even add some heat to the pineapple salsa if you want. The DJ Dog can swing to the beat of anyone’s drum.
10 hot dogs
10 hot dog buns
20 oz. can crushed pineapple, drained
1 tsp. green onions, finely chopped
1 tsp. brown sugar
garlic powder to taste
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup mayo
4 tsp. barbecue sauce
Sriracha sauce to taste
6 oz. bag fried onions
Cook hot dogs. Toast buns if desired. While hot dogs are cooking, prepare barbecue sauce mayo. Combine mayo with barbecue sauce. Add Sriracha sauce to taste. Prepare the pineapple salsa. Combine pineapple, brown sugar and chopped green onions. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. Spread barbecue sauce mayo on both sides of the inside of the buns. Place hot dog in each bun. Top with pineapple salsa and fried onions.
