parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
I chose to make this with sweet Italian sausage. And instead of making a big loaf as in the original recipe, I decided to make it into rolls because of course, we’re Big Bang Bites. But, this comes with a warning! You can’t eat just one!
1 loaf frozen bread dough
½ lb sweet Italian sausage
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1 T parmesan cheese
1 cup flat leaf parsley, chopped
1 egg, beaten
salt and pepper to taste
2 T olive oil
1 T butter
¼ tsp. garlic powder
Thaw bread dough and allow to rise as directed on the packaging.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Take the sausage out of the casing and break into small pieces while cooking. Fry until cooked completely. Set aside to cool. In a bowl, combine cheese, parsley, and egg. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in cooled sausage.
Roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Continue rolling to form a rectangle. Cut the rectangle into half lengthwise to form two rolls. Divide filling and spread on each dough. Starting with the longer side, roll dough into a log. Cut each log into ¾ inch slices and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Combine olive oil, butter and garlic powder in a small bowl and microwave for 15 seconds to melt butter. Brush tops of rolls with the butter mixture.
